AWARD-WINNING PASTRY CHEF ERNIE RICH
JOINS MOSHULU’S CULINARY TEAM

PHILADELPHIA, PA (August 16, 2005) – Award winning pastry chef Ernie Rich, who comes to Philadelphia from New York City, has been named the Executive Pastry Chef at the Moshulu, Philadelphia’s most unique waterfront dining experience. Rich, a Princeton Junction, NJ resident, brings an extensive culinary background to the Moshulu with experience in some of New York’s most prestigious kitchens including Scalini Fedeli, Sea Grill Rockefeller Plaza and River Cafe.

Rich’s culinary expertise has been recognized by several prestigious award programs. Among the honors he has received is the grand prize in the 1997 Valrhona/Harry Wils Chocolate Competition in New York City and being named a finalist in the 2000 Pastry Chef of the Year Competition in New York City. He has also appeared on The Food Network cable television channel on “Talking Food with Robin Leach” where he prepared “Krakatoa East of Java,” a flaming ice cream dessert named after the famous volcano eruption in the Indian Ocean in the late 19 th century.

Executive Chef Ralph Fernandez is thrilled to have Ernie Rich join him, Executive Sous Chef Adam DeLosso and Chef de Cuisine Kevin O’Kane at the Moshulu. He said, “Ernie’s creative talent will add another dimension to our culinary team. His history speaks for itself in recognizing his expertise.”

Rich has worked in New York City since 1989. He most recently served as Executive Pastry Chef at Scalini Fedeli, the second highest Zagat Survey rated Italian restaurant in New York City, where he was hired to open the restaurant.Prior to Scalini Fedeli, Rich served as Executive Pastry Chef at the Sea Grill Rockefeller Plaza and River Cafe in Brooklyn. He brings years of experience as a Pastry Sous Chef from the following New York City restaurants: Gauguin at the Plaza, Maxime’s, and Adrienne at the Peninsula. Rich also worked with chefs from Europe at the Scanticon Princeton Hotel and Conference Center in Princeton, New Jersey, a Danish run operation.

Ernie Rich graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate of Occupational Science degree in Baking and Pastry Arts from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Receiving several awards this winter – including the AAA Four Diamond Award ® and the Best Dish of the Year 2005, the Wine Spectator Magazine Award of Excellence -- the Moshulu, the world’s oldest and largest four-masted sailing ship, has been recognized for its beautifully unique setting, outstanding food and service.

The Moshulu is located in the Penn’s Landing Marina at 401 S. Columbus Boulevard (between Lombard and Pine Streets) in Philadelphia. Parking is available adjacent to the boat with valet parking in the evening. The Moshulu is open daily for lunch, Sunday brunch, dinner and late night entertainment. Bongo Bar and Deck serves dinner daily and lunch on the weekends only. Private parties are available on the deck, in one of the indoor private rooms or on the entire premises.
