Philadelphia, PA (March 22, 2005) - This year there was one new listing
on the AAA Four Diamond list – Philadelphia’s Moshulu
restaurant/ship! It is being recognized for the first time by AAA
for its excellent food and service under the leadership of Marty Grims,
general partner, Executive Chef/partner Ralph Fernandez and general
manager/partner Bill Bergan. This 101-year-old ship, the world's oldest
and largest four-masted tall ship, has long been considered just a
tourist attraction until now. The culinary team, headed by Ralph Fernandez
with Chef de Cuisine Kevin O'Kane and Executive Sous Chef Adam DeLosso,
was also recognized this winter for preparing the "Best Dish
of the Year 2005" at the popular Philly Cooks event.
When Grims re-opened the Moshulu in May 2003, he was determined to
make this beautiful ship a restaurant that would be respected. "We
are very proud to receive the Four Diamond Award from AAA," he
said at the award ceremony. "We have an excellent team who knows
how to deliver great service and wonderful food using only the freshest
ingredients. We are all very pleased to be included in this prestigious
list."
The Moshulu, the 394' ship with multi-level decks that provide unparalleled
views of the Philadelphia skyline and the Philadelphia waterfront,
will open the Bongo Bar and Deck on May 17, 2005. Always providing
exciting changes to their offerings, this year grilled food will be
added to the casual menu on the deck. There has been a new Sunday
brunch buffet added on the main floor of the Moshulu. Lunch and dinner
are served daily. For more information, visit www.moshulu.com.
The Moshulu received the award at a luncheon at the Four Seasons
Hotel on March 28, 2005. The AAA Four and five Diamond Awards represent
trademarks of excellence for lodgings and restaurants. Establishments
that receive the awards offer memorable experiences that include superior
personal service, quality amenities, and unequaled ambiance. The Moshulu
joins an elite group of national Four and Five Diamond Award winners.
Of 22,000 restaurants in the Mid-Atlantic region, only 3.12% attain
the Four Diamond level of excellence.
All AAA-approved lodgings and restaurants receive a thorough annual
inspection by 50 professionals. AAA officially began rating properties
in 1963, using good, very good, excellent and outstanding ratings.
The diamond rating system used today was introduced in 1977.
AAA Mid-Atlantic serves 3.5 million members in Delaware, Maryland,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia, providing
automotive, travel, personal insurance and financial services. AAA
has represented motorists and travelers for more than 100 years. Nearly
27% of U.S. drivers are AAA members. For more information, visit www.aaamidatlantic.com.
The Moshulu is permanently docked in Philadelphia on the Penn’s
Landing Marina at 401 S. Columbus Boulevard (between Lombard and Pine
Streets). The Moshulu is open daily for lunch, Sunday buffet brunch,
and dinner. Parking is available adjacent to the ship. The Bongo Bar
and Deck opens May 17, 2005 and introduces grilled dishes to the casual
menu on the deck. Private parties are available on the deck (heated
in colder months), in one of the indoor private rooms or on the entire
premises. For more information about the Moshulu, call 215-923-2500.
